I'm going to be the dad
I never had.
I will wipe away his tears when he is sad,
I will laugh with him when he is glad,
I will be there when he is mad,
And be with him when his girl calls him a cad,
He will never be able to say "That's the dad I wish I had."
Reality
I missed the game again today
But I know he'll understand anyway.
I wonder why he is so mad today
What did I do anyway.
Didn't I buy him a new glove for the game today?
He shows no appreciation, anyway.
There isn't another dad
Who treats his lad
With so many gifts, so why isn't he glad
I work hard for this lad
But no appreciation is to be had.
